'Looking through new iGuzzini Spain HQ'
This lecture features the new iGuzzini Illuminazione España SA
Headquarters in Barcelona by MiAS Architects, and which has been at the
forefront of the Catalan architectural scene.
The building, located in the middle of a highway crossing, has a hybrid role in terms of landscape and presence, as it emerges illuminating through the trees. Its main achievement is the visionary structural system: the whole building stands on a single vertical element containing a patio (formed by five double pillars). Due to this optimisation of the structure, the building floats and the floors get released from the inner structure. As a result, natural light reaches every point of the project, and the artificial light, used at night, transforms the volume in a reference lighthouse.
Josep Miàs obtained the title of Architect in 1992 by the Superior School of Architecture of Barcelona, Technical University of Catalunya (ETSAB UPC). From 1990 to 2000 he worked in Enric Miralles' office as an associated architect. In 2000 he created MiAS ARCHITECTS, his own office. His work, intensely developed as a craftwork, has been awarded several times (Barcelona City Prize, Catalonia Construction Award, etc). He has taught Architecture and has given lectures in Universities all over Europe, US and South America.
