Stage 1 Year Out

Overview

The Year Out in Architecture is a Bartlett certificate aimed at Part 1 graduates undertaking Stage 1 practical training experience between the time of completing their BSc Architecture (Part 1) and applying for the MArch Architecture (Part 2), either at the Bartlett or equivalent courses at another institution.

The course provides a framework for students to record and analyse this first period of work experience, which if properly logged using the RIBA's Professional Education and Development Record PEDR can count towards the 24 months approved practical training experience required to pass the final qualifying examination necessary to register as an architect in the UK.

Assessment

To pass the course, students must complete one essay assignment (set annually) and attend at least two Year Out lecture days.

Fees

The fees for the course are £250. This is only payable once and covers as many years out as required. The fees can be deferred until you have found a placement and have started filling out your PEDR sheets.

How to apply

The course is open to graduates from all universities. You are encouraged to enrol as soon as possible even if you have not yet found a placement.
