Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management makes key new appointment in the management of projects

The UCL Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management has further strengthened its academic leadership and world-class reputation with the appointment of a new Professor.

Dr Andrew Davies has been appointed Professor of the Management of Projects, an area of international leadership for the School. Professor Davies joins UCL from Imperial College where he was Reader in Innovation. He brings a wealth of expertise in innovation in complex projects. His recent research has been on innovation in major projects such as Crossrail, the London Olympics, Heathrow Terminal 5, and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.

Professor Davies, commenting on his new appointment at UCL, said:

“I am delighted to be joining the Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management at UCL. The international reputation of the School, the Bartlett, and UCL means I am looking forward to a range of exciting possibilities in the School’s research and teaching. With my interest in project innovation I am eager to continue to develop the excellent work in the area of the ‘management of projects’ that has been led by the Bartlett’s Professor Peter Morris and his colleagues.”

The Dean of the Bartlett, Professor Alan Penn also commented:

“I am very pleased that Professor Davies will be joining the Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management. The School’s size and reputation have grown substantially over the last decade under the leadership of Professor Peter Morris and with Professor Davies now joining the School I am looking forward to its future continued success. This is a timely appointment as the global challenges we face over the next few decades will impact on the built environment extensively and we will need new insights as to how to manage the resulting projects.”

Professor Davies joins the Bartlett School of Construction & Project Management from Imperial College Business School where he has been a Reader and Research Centre Co-Director since 2005. Prior to his role at Imperial College he was the ESRC Centre Deputy Director at the Complex Product Systems Innovation Centre, part of the Science and Technology Policy Research Unit (SPRU), linked to Sussex University.

Professor Davies will formally take up his new role at UCL on 1 October 2012.
