17:00 - 20:00 20 March 2013
Location: Central House, UCL
Our cross-disciplinary seminar series continues in March with Prof Peter Jones, UCL Centre for Transport Studies, presenting 'Sustainable Transport - Meeting the Challenge'.
Transport contributes 20%-25% of global CO2 emissions, consumes large quantities of metals and other non-renewable resources, is a major contributor to local air and noise pollution, and is responsible for the deaths of over 1.2 million people annually. These problems are growing in many parts of the world, particularly in urban areas. The lecture will outline these challenges and illustrate some of the measures that are being taken by transport and other professionals to address them - and poses the question of whether we can 'short circuit' the learning curve that developed countries have gone through.
The talk will be followed by Q & A session and a networking reception with drinks and nibbles.
